Digital Transformation is one of the hottest topics right now in the press. Starting with prominent examples like UBER or AirBnB Media, consultants and almost everybody is talking about the risk to get disrupted by startups. So you have to move quickly.
Also Tim Cole is asking the question: quo vadis digital Germany? Can we “survive” the digital transformation or is it too late?
In his book he gives an easy to understand overview about the main topics behind digital transformation. Ecommerce, Big Data, Online Marketing, Customer Centricity, Smart Products, Industry 4.0 and the digital workplace. Starting with some history on each topic, Tim explains with a lot of examples what is happing right now and what the impact on our business is. At the end of each chapter he listed a questionaire of 10 questions you show ask yourself to get started.
Personally I like the book, because it is easy to understand and a brief overview of a topic which is hard to capture. I recommend this book everybody who is starting with it’s digital transformation journey. For everyone who already has a deep understanding the book will not sastisfy your need for more insights – simply because it is to high-level.
How digital transformation will lead to new business models is not covered in detail. Only a few times there are changes in business models mentioned, but stays high-level. If you want to reinvent your business model, it is (again) a starting point, but no step-by-step guide.
All in all a quick and must read for every manager to start.
